5 Steps For Negotiating!

August 14th, 2009 |

There are 5 good steps to use in negotiating.

Everyone negotiates in life. Whether it be in business, in a relationship, with your kids, or buying a house, we use negotiating tricks in everyday life.

Here are 5 Tips for negotiating:

1. First of all get clear in your mind what you want. Think of what the other person wants, then make it a win-win contract for both parties.

2. Stop thinking of any reason that would keep the deal from happening. Don’t be negative about it. Tell yourself, “I will win!”

3. Think of what would make both parties have pleasure, not pain. You get more with honey than with vinegar.

4. Make sure there is an alternate method that meets both needs. Always be willing to look at things differently.

5. If it works out for both parties, then negotiate a successful contract. A contract where everyone wins!

These 5 steps can be used to get more enjoyment out of your job, get your kids to do something they don’t want to do, make your business run smoother, and even benefit your relationship.

You can pretty much count on everyone testing you. Start being creative. You need to break their way of thinking. Maybe answer a question with a question. Always let them do the talking, then come back with a solution that will be win-win for both of you.

Negotiating can be fun if you don’t let stress take over. When you want something from someone, don’t act like it’s do or die. They will always win. Act as if it is no big deal, and you will usually get everything that you negotiate for.
