The top 5 questions along with our answers:

1. Exactly what is a TollGate?

The TollGate process is where you act as the agent for two different business entities and collect fees from both parties to the agreement.

2. How easy is it to start doing these types of deals?

As with any new venture there is a learning curve associated with any level of success. The good news is that learning curve is really fairly short and not very intensive. It helps to have a vision as to the benefits for all parties involved that can be easily communicated.

3. If I was just starting out as a total newbie would should I do first?

Like any other thing you do for the first time crawl before you walk and walk before you run. The same is true for TollGating. Start with an obvious deal that is small and local. Hook up the dry cleaner with the local dentist and have the dry cleaner pass out fliers on the dry cleaners promoting the dentist. This is a simple and easy deal with little effort on your part.

4. Once I have one or two local deals under my belt what should I do next?

That really depends on how confident you are with your skills. The big deals are going to mainly be done over the net. That type of deal is where you sit in the middle and connect two large companies. One with a list of customers and the other with a product that needs distribution. Sit in the middle at the TollGate and collect fees from both sides as they pass go.

5. How do you suggest I go about doing research for finding potential deals?

We actually use a number of different methods when it comes to research. The first and most logical is to contact people you already know. Go in with a mindset of really trying to help them prosper. Ask questions and listen to the answers. Become a news reporter, if you will. Find out what the business person really needs help with and then find a solution.

Doing research on the net to find business matches is also a logical next step. Try to understand what would make a good match and then go for it. The first couple of times may not result in putting a deal together but the information you learn will be invaluable.

Research and constantly getting offers out to viable business interests will result in higher closing ratios over time.
